WRESTLER SUPERSTAR

Glenn Thomas Jacobs was born on April 26 1967 in Madrid-Spain, making him 36 years of age at the moment. The WWE list him as 7 feet tall, but most sources have him at 6'9". He is currently around the 280-300 pound mark. Jacobs was raised in St.Louis, Missouri & went to college at Northeast Missouri State. He currently resides in Tennessee with his wife & 2 daughters, where he also owns a gym.
The change came in January 1995 when Jacobs secured a position in Jim Cornette's Smoky Mountain Wrestling (SMW) promotion. He was renamed UnaBomb & won the SMW Tag Team Titles with Al Snow only 3 months later on April-7, when the duo beat The Rock 'N' Roll Express. Snow & Jacobs held the titles for 3 months before falling to the team of Tracy Smothers & Tony Anthony on July-6. It was at this stage that Jacobs' career was about to take a turn for the better. You see, the WWF had their eyes on Jacobs, and it was about at this time, when the WWF had a real affection for huge wrestlers. The first step was to send Paul Bearer & The Undertaker down to their affiliate SMW to get involved in a mini-feud with UnaBomb. On August-4, UnaBomb (Jacobs) wrestled The Undertaker at a SMW event called 'The SuperBowl Of Wrestling'. The Undertaker obviously came out on top of this match, but that match was the last piece of information that the WWF needed before signing Jacobs to a contract. Eight days later, UnaBomb & Snow got their rematch against Smothers & Anthony, but this time it would be in a 'Loser Of The Fall Leaves SMW' match. Needless to say, Jacobs was pinned by Smothers in that match & Jacobs was on his way out of SMW, but on his way into the WWF.
The WWF at this stage basically said that Jacobs & Rick Bogner (the man that portrayed the fake Razor Ramon) could now do anything. So they wrestled for a few months with the gimmick in Mexico's AAA. This resulted in more lack of enthusiasm from crowds, so Jacobs took Bogner with him back to the USWA for another try. Same result fortunately. I say fortunately because it must have finally got through that the fake Diesel gimmick was never, and I mean, never going to work. Jacobs resurrected his Doomsday gimmick & due to it going over fairly well with the USWA crowds, it resulted in a Heavyweight title shot. Doomsday finally won the USWA Heavyweight Title on July-13, 1997. He only held the title for approximately 2 months. Why? Because the WWF came ringing Jacobs' doorbell with yet another idea.

Wrestler Men

Since the dawn of human civilization, man always finds ways to compete and excel. In the field of sports, no other event has ever surpassed the paramount impact, popularity and the entertainment value of wrestling. Wrestling in the ancient times were violent, merciless and raw. As times change, so did the rules of wrestling. But one thing never seems to change – that is the hunger of man for glory and honor. Behold the greatest men wrestlers of the present time.
First in the list of the greatest men wrestlers is Kurt Angle. Kurt Angle was awarded as the most recognizable amateur wrestler in the year 1996. Born Kurt Steven Angle, the amateur wrestler first got into sports when he was still in high school. Angle played in a high school football as a varsity player and became an All State linebacker for Mt. Lebanon High School in Pennsylvania. He also joined in high school wrestling. Although he was born athletic, Angle wanted to focus on one more sport. In 1987, his first break in wrestling came when he won the junior category of the Pennsylvania State Wrestling Champion in 1987.
Whether you like black male wrestlers or hairy men wrestlers, you'll be able to find pictures out there that fit your interests. Most pictures of men wrestlers are of very innocent poses. Sure, the pictures may be used in a sexual way by fans, but that is often not the reason why the pictures were taken in the first place. That is especially the case for pictures of male wrestlers that work for professional wrestling promotions like WWE. The pictures are more toe advertise that specific male wrestler as opposed to representing it as a sex object.

LADY DYMUND

Lady Dymund is a beautiful and well-conditioned fighter who could fight for hours without tiring. She's also fast, agile and very aggressive. A truly formidable opponent who doesn't take kindly to losing and may scare some potential opponents with her extremely dominating personality.
Ms Dymund is another of those wrestlers who are professional dominatrixes. Often these women don't know the meaning of losing and make very good wrestlers.

Lizzy Bierschneider definitely qualifies as an amazon with the size, power and looks to be very successful in female wrestling. She's from Munich, Germany and has been in the bodybuilding scene for a number of years but now is concentrating more on session wrestling. She does matches from fantasy to semi-competitive and also does posing, lift and carry, arm wrestling, etc in and around her current location in Düsseldorf, Germany.

HULK HOGAN

Hulk Hogan, was born Terry Gene Bollea, on August 11, 1953, in Augusta, Georgia. Bollea is the youngest son of Pete Bollea, a construction foreman and Ruth Bollea, a homemaker and dance instructor. Bollea acquired an interest for wrestling in high school. He also had a love for music, skilled in both electric and bass guitar.. He went on to study at Hillsborough Community College and the University of South Florida. However, in spite of his education, his interests remained in the ring, and he never received his degree. Instead, he chose to devote his time to working out in a local gym, owned by wrestlers Jack and Jerry Brisco. Encouraged by these two brothers, Bollea spent a few months wrestling on some small circuits in the Southeast and in New Japan Wrestling.
Former wrestler Hulk Hogan is heading back to the sport. He has signed a contract with Total Nonstop Action (TNA).
The former WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) champion has swapped sides by heading to rival wrestling firm TNA and will make his TV debut for the company on Thursday night.
Hogan, who hasn't wrestled professionally since 2006, admits he is delighted to be returning to the sport and has thanked his fans for sticking by him.
He says in a statement, "I'm thrilled to be jumping back into the world of professional wrestling. My fans have been asking me to return to the business for many years on a full time basis, but the timing or the opportunity has never been right until now. TNA Wrestling is a great company with an already excellent fan base, business and broadcast partner. I firmly believe now is the time for some change at TNA as they are positioned to jump to the next level in their development and I'm here to help make that a reality."

WORLD WRESTLING (WWE)

WWE Diva Mickie Laree James was born on August 31, 1979 in Montpelier, Virginia.
She is a female pro wrestler currently wrestling for the WWE on it's Raw show.

Mickie started out using the name Alexis Laree which was a combination of her real name and a name she used on stage as a dancer. Her first match was an intergender tag team match with Jake Damian against American Mike Brown and Candie.
WWE started Summerslam on RAW with two title defences, including Mickey James defending against #1 Contender Gail Kim.
Gail Kim and Mickey James put on a great back and forth with each Diva at times mirroring each other’s moves. The end came when Gail went for a cross body on Mickey that Mickey rolled under. Gail landed hard on her jaw and was basically out of it. Mickey attempted to DDT a dazed Gail Kim only to have Gail counter the DDT on instinct. Mickey’s follow up with a lose spinning leg kick and an elbow toppled Gail backwards onto the mat. It took Mickey a moment to realise Gail wasn’t getting back up before Mickey covered Gail Kim for a three count.

While some people refer to Mickey’s ending elbow as the ELBOW of doom, we seriously think Mickey could have bowled Gail over with the FINGERPOKE of doom at the end. Great match, tough ending and a tough crowd still punch drunk from the return of DX and the beatdown by Legacy.

Lady Wrestler

The first Bikini Brawl had hot chicks fighting and grappling, but this one features wet, wild and sexy girls fighting in the pool with hot porn stars, and of course the bikinis come off. These girls love to show off for the camera. Hosted by two sexy girls who just can't get enough of whipped cream and each other. Bikini Brawl is tits and ass at its best with matches that feature beer, whipped cream, oil and a seven girl battle royal.
Miss Elizabeth is probably the most iconic woman in wrestling history. Miss Elizabeth is best known for managing her husband Randy Savage. The two staged a wedding as part of a WWF storyline, despite having already been married for years. Miss Elizabeth died tragically at the age of 43 in 2003 in her home and is buried in Frankfort, Ky.
Torrie Wilson may be retired from wrestling, but few female wrestlers can comptete with her very successful 8 year run in the industry. Torrie won several titles, including the Golden Thong award and Miss Galaxy!

Female Hot Wrestling

Female combat, especially wrestling, is as old as written history. From the ancient Greeks and Romans to the story of the Amazons, women have battled men and each other since time began. The competitiveness of women cannot be subdued and will go on forever.Female wrestling is sexy, entertaining and is rapidly becoming very popular throughout the world. Golden Girls main objective has always been the production of the highest quality video tapes available. These video tapes feature beautiful Hollywood starlets, center-folds, amateurs, pro-girls, bodybuilders and girls who just like to fight.

HOT MELISSA

Wrestling Daily, James Triggs has a column discussing the pros and cons of TNA producing a weekly Knockouts-only show. It's an interesting topic. James discusses the possibilities of the project actually happening and what would need to change for it to come to fruition. He also talks about the various Knockouts involved, many of whom are among your favorite G.L.O.R.Y. Girls.
Melissa Marie Dettwiller is a female bodybuilder from the United States.
She was born on November 12, 1977 in Houma, Louisiana, and began training for bodybuilding when she was 15 years old. Until August, 2005, Melissa had been living in New Orleans, but she and her husband lost their home during Hurricane Katrina. She currently lives in the Houston, Texas, area.
Melissa stands 5'2" and competes at a bodyweight of 134 lb. Her early contest history consisted mainly of regional shows. She made her first National-level appearances in 2005, coming second in her class at the Junior Nationals, and tenth at the USA Championship.
When Cheerleader Melissa (a.k.a. TNA's Alissa Flash) faced fellow G.L.O.R.Y. Girl LuFisto in Montreal last month, the brutal brunette showed that she's not above doing whatever has to be done to win...even if it means massacring her opponent outside the ring. Take a look as Melissa plants a boot to the back of LuFisto's head and viciously grinds the blonde's face into the ringside mat [above]. Then to show just how little she cares about the rules, Melissa goes even further as she crashes the steel ringside barrier down across the Canadian's back and then poses on top of her!

They are currently working for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) on the ECW brand. They began an angle with John Morrison and The Miz, which quickly led to the Bellas disbanding as a team, due to one being infatuated with the Colóns and the other with Morrison and The Miz. This break up was short lived, as the twins are now reunited on ECW after a short stint with Raw.

Terri Poch (born August 20, 1967) is an American bodybuilder and former professional wrestler, best known for her appearances with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) as Tori. wrestling WWF

Now you must understand, I am a huge wrestling fan and a huge fan of the WWF. I think it's new format is great for older audiences, but the younger fans are becoming exposed to what is meant for older eyes only.

The most drastic of these changes can be seen the WWF's new ATTITUDE format. While it may be suitable for adult and teenage fans, it is often too mature for younger viewers. Every week on Monday Night Raw you can expect to see a pimp(The Godfather), some girls flashing the cameras(if DX is in the building), or even a drunk and stumbling wrestler(Hawk of LOD). While many adults may understand that this is only pretend, children may not. These wrestlers are heroes to many of today's youth so many kids begin to copy these antics.

SEXY WRESTLING

Sadly Lita ( Amy Dumas ) is no longer a wrestling diva but I really think she deserves to be the number 2 wrestling diva of all time. I'm sure that Edge misses Lita more than we will ever know. Lita parted ways with the WWE and turned down a offered position with TNA. She is currently pursuing a acting career and she says her days as a wrestling diva are over and she is happy about that fact. She says she misses the public but not the WWE.

FEMALE WRESTLING

Female wrestling becomes popular in Europe. Masha Poddubnaya, wife of the great Russian wrestler Ivan Poddubny, claimed the women’s title. Said journalist Max Viterbo of a female wrestling match in the Rue Montmartre in 1903, "The stale smell of sweat and foul air assaulted your nostrils. In this overheated room the spectators were flushed. Smoke seized us by the throat and quarrels broke out." As for the wrestlers, "They flung themselves at each other like modern bacchantes -- hair flying, breasts bared, indecent, foaming at the mouth. Everyone screamed, applauded, stamped his feet."

"It is a good thing for a girl to learn to box," says an article in the beauty column of February 27 issue of the New York Evening World. Why? Because "poise, grace and buoyancy of movement result from this exercise." Techniques that schoolgirls were told to practice with their maids included hooks to the face and solar plexus punches. According to the New York World, young ladies attending the Madison Academy in New York City also boxed and wrestled. The wrestlers included Pauline Fausek and Evelyn Reilly, who talked glibly of half-Nelsons and hammerlocks, while Annie Lynch, the boxer, was said to "hit a harder blow than the average young man. Every blow comes straight from the shoulder, not with awkwardness and lack of speed one would expect, but with the weight of the body behind it." Working-class women also boxed and wrestled, though more for the money than the sport, and in New Orleans, two female boxers died from injuries received while fighting a South American woman called Bellona.

WRESTLING FUN

This is a subset of book I produced in the early 1990s called Wrestling Fun, concerning mixed wrestling for erotic enjoyment. It is a compendium of a newsletter I produced over the space of about a year. It was my original intention to try and match men and women who got erotic enjoyment from the sport of wrestling, but regretfully I eventually discovered that although many men seek women who will wrestle them there are very few women who get enjoyment from this activity.

I would urge young men interested in this subject to realise that anyone reading about it persistently could get to the point that nothing else will suffice. It is very difficult, verging on the impossible in fact, to get a female life time partner who will cooperate, as there is usually nothing in it for the woman. The only way you will get a woman to wrestle is to pay her, and many may find this demeaning for themselves or for the woman.

SEXY ASHLEY

She is a hot and proud Dirty Diva. Ashley won the title of Miss Hawaiian Tropic USA in 2002, then Miss Hawaiian Tropic Canada in 2005. She appeared in several swimsuit calendars, making her month the hottest in the year. She is often seen in the pages of magazines like Stuff, FHM, and Maxim, or on the covers of FLEX and Femme Fatale. Still, it's not all about her good looks and charms. She has a degree in Communications from the University of New York and keeps in touch with most of her fans.

FANTASTIC WRESTLING

CHRIS JERICHO
Chris Jericho has paid his dues, and he wants to make sure you know it. Ha ha ha... honestly I love Jericho. If he would just lose 20 pounds I would be so happy. Seriously. This tag team with Big Show is fantastic. They belong together. I wish this had happened years ago.

HART DYNASTY: SMITH, NATALYA, KIDD
I wanna see these amazing young superstars wrestling with Legacy. Maybe one of them can lend Cody Rhodes some pink knee pads. Anyway, im glad to see them getting a push.

WRESTLING WEEKEND

Everybody always says that the NCAA Tournament is the culmination of the wrestling season. In a way, they are right. But really, the NCAA Tournament IS the wrestling season. Essentially you need to find a way to punch a ticket, and whatever you do over the course of three days is going to determine how your year went. Because the stakes are so high, few weekends in any sport carry as much drama. You are always a second away from glory or a second away from disaster. There are too many heroes to count, to many turning points to notice, too many warriors to recognize, and just too much good wrestling for me to feel like anything I write here can sufficiently sum up the weekend. But I m going to take it a paragraph at a time and give it a shot. More than anything, the NCAA Tournament is about guts. If I had to pick out one snapshot from the entire weekend, it would have to be Dustin Fox, blood dripping from his face, nose mangled as all hell, with his arms triumphantly up in the air and a 1,000 kilowatt smile. It's no secret that I have been rooting for Bergman all year, but Fox absolutely gutted this one out and found a way to get his hand raised. And hopefully somebody has a good shot of him right after he won, that's what wrestling is all about.
Never in my life have I been so confident that somebody would win a match after being taken down twice in the first period. After Brent Metcalfs second escape, all I could say was buckle up, because the pedal is about to be pressed to the floor. Sure enough, he wrestled the rest of the match like his singlet was on fire, destroying Bubba Jenkins in the process. The more I see him wrestler, the less human I think he is. Then all doubt goes out the window when I hear him speak. Tom Brands has completely brainwashed this poor kid into a killing machine. He was even remotely excited after winning his first National Title, just focused on the next time he going to wrestle. It takes a different mindset to succeed in this sport, and Metcalf has perfected it.
Show of the night goes to Coleman Scott. Single, cradle, celebrate. He looked like a five ton weight was lifted off his shoulders. I always wonder what that exact moment is like, when you reached the pinnacle of your sport, and that instant you dreamed of since you were a little kid finally comes true. I love celebrations because it gives us a glimpse into just how great that feeling is. Watch Scott celebrate, I could not fend off an ear to ear grin. It one of the best parts about sports, the pure, unbridled joy of victory. Here to another great college wrestling season.

Oil Wrestling

Ladies’ oil wrestling matches are usually organized in big inflatable pools, which give the wrestlerettes the possibility to throw each other around in a pretty spectacular fashion.
In some oil wrestling matches the combatants are completely naked or topless. The glistening bodies of the wrestlerettes do sometimes induce an element of fetish into the whole setup, especially when the whole thing is intended to go down like an erotic show rather than a competitive one.
It is more difficult to win an oil wrestling match either by pin or by submission as the lack of friction means an easy way out of otherwise inescapable holds. The ladies who participate in oil wrestling usually dress in bikinis as any sort of fabric impregnated with oil would be unpleasant and cumbersome.
Oil wrestling matches are often semi competitive or only set up for the sake of the show as are professional wrestling bouts.
If it’s competitive, women’s oil wrestling is just another version of competitive mat wrestling. It goes down according to pin/submission rules, with the difference that the slipperiness of the oil makes it easier for both wrestlerettes to slip out of holds.

WRESTLING FEMME FATALE

Hi, and welcome to the first edition of Femme Fatale, a column that appreciates the finer side of the wrestling world – the women. From WWE Divas to TNA Knockouts, from Joshi Puroresu to G.L.O.R.Y. Girls, I’ll feature the best from the past, present and I’ll even throw in some future predictions. But not every female wrestler qualifies as a femme fatale. No, for someone to be featured, they need to meet two major criteria.
Finally, it all came down to a huge powerbomb by Trish Stratus that threatened to end the epic match, but Mickie James kicked out and then delivered her patented Mick Kick to the head, knocking Trish semi-concious and allowing Mickie to pin her and win her first WWE Women’s Championship, much to the delight of her new fans.
In 2007, as Women’s Champion, Mickie James was involved in a feud with her OVW rival, Melina which climaxed in the first ever Women’s Falls Count Anywhere Match in March. The following month, Mickie won her third title at a house show in Paris, only to lose it minutes later to Melina. That would be the closest that Mickie came to the title for most of the year.
This weekend, at Judgment Day, Mickie James faces what might arguably be her toughest challenge yet. A triple threat match with Melina and Beth Phoenix with the Women’s Title on the line. Will the four-time Women’s Champion prevail against such dangerous odds? Only time will tell. Yet we can be sure of one thing, Mickie James will not go down without a fight.

WOMEN WRESTLING

I believe that women wrestlers can serve a purpose. Women wrestling can be an entertaining and profitable part of pro-wrestling as a whole. Women wrestling has just suffered, like lucha libre, from a lack of credible and interesting storylines. It seems like most feds, small and big, are to blame for this. They will start a storyline involving women wrestlers and then drop it like a bad habit and never mention it again. Most of the time, these are angles that look promising if continued with and given proper air time.
Most male fans will tell you that they only watch women wrestling for the sex and the fighting. And the hope that the elusive nipple or breast may slip out of their scanty outfits. I believe that men can still get that without sacrificing worthy angles and worthy wrestling matches between women. I believe women wrestling can be resurrected but not at the expense of the sex sells concept and not at the expense of men's wrestling. It does not have to be a division all unto itself.

PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING

Professional wrestling, or pro wrestling, is an athletic performing art where matches are prearranged by the promotion's booking staff. It is a non-competitive sport. It contains strong elements of theatre, mock combat, and catch wrestling. It has origins in carnival sideshows and music halls in the late 19th century as part of displays of athleticism and strength. Modern professional wrestling usually features striking and grappling techniques, which are modeled after diverse sets of wrestling and pugilistic styles from around the world.
Although professional wrestling started out as petty acts in sideshows and traveling circuses and carnivals, today it is a billion-dollar industry that draws revenue from ticket sales, television broadcasts, branded merchandise and home video. It was instrumental in making pay-per-view a viable method of content delivery. Annual shows such as WrestliMania are among the highest-selling pay-per-view programming. Home video sales dominate the Billboard charts Recreational Sports DVD sales, with wrestling holding anywhere from 3 to 9 of the top 10 spots every week.Billboard's 2008 year-end sales show World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) holding 14 of the top 20 for the entire year of 2008.

WRESTLING WOMEN

There's reason to believe that years from now the female wrestling landscape will look different. According to a New York Times article, a little more than a decade ago (1996-97) only 1,600 girls wrestled in high school. That number had increased more than threefold by 2006-07 to 5,000 girls. Why? Well, the difference almost certainly has something to do with the recent inclusion of women's wrestling in the Olympics (2004). In fact, since 2006-07 the amount of colleges that offer female wrestling as a varsity sport has also increased, albeit more slowly. Sure, the amount of colleges offering the sport for women is still painfully low, but as early as last year, USA Wrestling's women's national coach Terry Steiner was positive about recent developments.

OIL WRESTLING HISTORY

The history of the oil wrestling tournaments links back to the Persian Era, a period starting from 1065 BC according to Ferdowsi's Shahnameh. The legendary pehlivan (wrestler) of this era is Rostam, constantly saving his country from the evil forces.
This is one of the most popular sports in Turkey.Yagli gures means literally oiled wrestling. The wrestlers wear tight short leather trousers called "Kispet", made of water buffalo leather weighing approximately 13 kilograms, and they cover themselves with olive oil. Matches take place throughout the country but the most famous and most important tournament takes place in Edirne by the end of June and beginning of July. In 2009, the 648th edition is held between June 29th - July 5th with the participation of 1578 wrestlers, and Mehmet Yesil from Antalya became the "bas pehlivan" beating Recep Kara, the winner of the last two years.
The wrestlers attend other wrestling championships before coming to Kirkpinar. The referees closely know the technique and mastery of each wrestler. The categories are divided into groups called "boy." In this arrangement, weight is not a deciding factor. A wrestler weighing 120kg might not be allowed to wrestle in the "bas" (head) category. To wrestle in the head category, one must have had a final in "bas alti", one step lover than the "bas" category. A successful wrestler in regional championships might be allowed to wrestle in the "bas" category if he is found to be superior to his competitors.
The final wrestling matches are held on the 3rd day of Kirkpinar, the President of Turkey arrives at Edirne on this day to watch the finals. The baspehlivan's prize is given by the President, the "aga" (sponsor), and the mayor. In 2007 and 2008, the winner of the Kirkpinar Oil Wrestling was Recep Kara, so he became the "baspehlivan". But in 2009 Mehmet Yesil from Antalya beated Recep Kara becoming the new "bas pehlivan".

WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT (WWE)

During the starting years the company was named as the Titan Sports, the name which was later altered to World Wrestling Federation Entertainment, Inc. today it is more popular as only the World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. nick named as WWE. This organization successfully manages its operations of the professional wrestling programs on a large scale which include several top notch professional wrestlers that give a superb performance. The events that take place are managed chronologically for later promotion and preservation in the library. During the initial years Worldwide Wrestling Federation (WWF) was its chief sponsors, but now the list has been joined by ECW, RAW and Smack Down to name a few. The main theme of WWE revolves around 2-3 heavy weight championships for which all the wrestlers compete. Its magnanimous revenues can be speculated in regards to its 2007 revenue which amounted to around US$486 million with a shared net proportionality of profit generation of around fifty two million US dollars. Currently the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Championship is used for the representation of the overall global heavyweight-grade champion in the category of the present age.

WRESTLING

The period of rock and wrestling gimmick was also pioneered by Vincent K. McMahon. During WrestleMania 1, McMahon launched cross promoting with MTV with various music stars like Alice Cooper and Cyndi Lauper starring at the pay-per-view. Wrestle Mania was colorful, bright, star-studded, and at times filled with appalling circus-like gimmicks. It became an annual event, while Hulk Hogan leads the WWF's golden age on camera.
WCW started pilfering talent from the WWF and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW). McMahon took action by creating new superstars in order to regain the ratings war; superstars like Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Razor Ramon (Scott Hall), and Diesel (Kevin Nash). Ultimately, CWC pirated most of these wrestlers.

Wrestling Athletic

Wrestling is one of the world's oldest forms of athletic competition. Many cultures had forms of wrestling as a component of their military preparation. The ancient Olympics included wrestling, with the competition first recorded as taking place in the Games of 708 BC.
Wrestling is a sport involving two athletes engaged in a physical competition that is limited to a specified area defined on a mat. The general object of all types of wrestling is one wrestler attempts to force the shoulders of the opponent to the floor in a prescribed manner. The contest, a bout, is generally two rounds, each three minutes in duration. A wrestler wins a bout by either scoring a fall against the opponent, or by accumulating points through the successful execution of various maneuvers. In all forms of wrestling, a referee will supervise the contest, and judges positioned near the mat will score the progress of the contest. The two different types of wrestling competition are freestyle (in which men and women compete in separate divisions) and Greco-Roman.
Wrestling in all of its forms is a demanding and highly athletic sport. As with many sports where physical strength and size are important competitive factors, wrestling competitions are divided into specific weight categories. Wrestling training must be comprehensive to produce a successful athlete, and all of the traditional attributes of complete physical fitness are engaged in the sport: strength, power, speed, flexibility, and endurance. The primal nature of wrestling, and the requirement that a single opponent be conquered, also demand the development of a very rigorous mental approach to training and competition.
A characteristic of all successful wrestlers is the combined effect of flexibility and agility. Wrestling is a dynamic sport where the athlete must be able to respond to an opponent's attacks from a variety of physical positions. The rules of wrestling permit a multitude of different applications of force in which the greater the flexibility and resultant range of motion in the joints of the athlete, the more likely a positive response can be made and the less likely an injury will be sustained.

WRESTLING CLASS

This class will explore the cultural history and media industry surrounding the masculine drama of professional wrestling. Beginning with wrestling's roots in sport and carnival, the class examines how new technologies and changes in the television industry led to evolution for pro wrestling style and promotion and how shifts in wrestling characters demonstrate changes in the depiction of American masculinity. The class will move chronologically in an examination of how wrestling characters and performances have changed, focusing particularly on the 1950s to the present. Students may have previous knowledge of wrestling but are not required to, nor are they required to be a fan (although it is certainly not discouraged, either).

Wrestling and Football

High school football and wrestling athletes experienced the highest rate of severe injuries, according to the first study to examine severe injuries injuries that caused high school athletes to miss more than 21 days of sport participation among a nationally representative sample of high school athletes. Severe injuries accounted for 15 percent of all high school sport-related injuries.
"Twenty-nine percent of severe injuries occurred to the knee, making it the most commonly injured body site," explained the study's co-author Christy Collins, CIRP research associate at Nationwide Children's Hospital. "The ankle accounted for 12 percent followed by shoulder at 11 percent."
Overall, males experienced a higher rate of severe injuries, according to the study published in the September issue of the American Journal of Sports Medicine and conducted by researchers in the Center for Injury Research and Policy (CIRP) of The Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital. However, this difference was driven by the large number of severe injuries that occurred in football and wrestling. In directly comparable sports, such as soccer, basketball and baseball/softball, females sustained a higher severe injury rate. In all sports studied, severe injury rates were higher in competition than in practice.
"Severe injuries negatively affect athletes' health and often place an increased burden on the health care system," said study co-author Dawn Comstock, PhD, CIRP principal investigator at Nationwide Children's and a faculty member of The Ohio State University College of Medicine. "Future research is needed to develop effective interventions to decrease the incidence and severity of high school sports injuries."
The Center for Injury Research and Policy (CIRP) in The Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital works globally to reduce injury-related pediatric death and disabilities. With innovative research at its core, CIRP works to continually improve the scientific understanding of the epidemiology, biomechanics, prevention, acute treatment and rehabilitation of injuries. CIRP serves as a pioneer by translating cutting edge injury research into education, advocacy and advances in clinical care. In recognition of CIRP's valuable research, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) designated the Center for Injury Research and Policy as an Injury Control Research Center in 2008.

Wrestling's Secret

While many people think of wrestling as a big joke, there is one thing about wrestling that isn't funny. The death rate among wrestlers is alarmingly high. The first time this story was covered by the national media was in 2003 on HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumble. That segment featured Vince McMahon mocking the interviewer and slapping the notes from his hands. In addition, the only wrestler to speak up for the wrestlers, Roddy Piper, was fired after the piece aired.
Not all the wrestlers die due to the reasons stated above. Some die due to travel related incidents because of all the time on the road. Some have even died as a result of injuries suffered in the ring. Unfortunately, the least common way that wrestlers seem to be dying is due to old age.
While the outcomes of the matches are pre-determined, the effort to put on those matches takes a huge toll on their bodies. The wrestlers are on the road over 300 days a year and unlike other athletes, they do not have an off season. In addition, accidents do happen and injuries occur. Unfortunately, if wrestlers take time off, their wallets will suffer significantly. These factors all lead to the deadly slope that many wrestlers have found themselves facing. They get addicted to pain killers to numb the pain. This medicine keeps them too lethargic to wrestle, so they take drugs to get high. This deadly mixture leads to illegal drug dependency that many wrestlers have to cope with even after they retire.

Mixed Martial Arts Competition

Grappling and striking skills are both of importance in mixed martial arts competitions. Fighters who were accomplished wrestlers, gained respect during the early stages of MMA development. Some of these, went on to win several early UltimateFighting Championships(UFC).and fighters from non-wrestling backgrounds had pursued wrestling training to complement their other skills.
Successful fighters in modern MMA who began their training in various forms of wrestling, include Brock Lesnar
, the current UFC heavyweight champion who was a NCAA wrestling champion in 2000 and achieved 2nd place 1999,and former champions Dan Henderson, of PRIDE FC and Randy Couture, a multi-time UFC champion, both of whom competed extensively in collegiate and Greco-Roman wrestling before beginning their careers in mixed martial arts.
Wrestling is a strength sport that requires a large amount of muscle stamina. "Due to the high intensity and strenuous energy demands of a wrestling match, athletes must consume the needed nutrition requirements".Wrestlers who deprive their bodies of nutrients can lead to fatal affects. Unsafe practices including rubber suits and crash diets have been banned by some coaches and trainers in order to keep their athletes healthy.

Wrestling Two Persons

sport in which two persons strive to throw each other to the ground . It is one of the most primitive and universal of sports . Upon the walls of the temple-tombs of Beni Nile, are sculptured many hundred scenes from wrestling matches, depicting practically all the holds and falls known at the present day, thus proving that wrestling was a highly developed sport at least 3000 years before the Christian era . As the description of the bout between Odysseus and Ajax in the 23rd book of the Iliad, and the evolutions of the classic Greek wrestlers, tally with the sculptures of Beni Hasan and Nineveh, the sport may have been introduced into Greece from Egypt or Asia . In Homer's celebrated description of the match between Ajax and Odysseus the two champions wore only a girdle, which was, however, not used in the classic Greek games . Neither Homer nor Eustathius, who also minutely depicted the battle between Ajax and Odysseus, mentions the use of oil, which, however, was invariable at the Olympic games, where wrestling was introduced during the 18th Olympiad . The Greek wrestlers were, after the application of the oil, rubbed with fine sand, to afford a better hold . Wrestling was a very important branch of athletics in the Greek games, since it formed the chief event of the pentathlon, or quintuple games (see GAMES, CLASSICAL) . All holds were allowed, even strangling, butting and kicking . Crushing the fingers was used especially in the pancration, a combination of wrestling and boxing . Wrestlers were taught to be graceful in all their movements, in accordance with the Greek ideas of aesthetics . There were two varieties of Greek wrestling, the irhXo 6p817, or upright wrestling, which was that generally practised, and the AXivbilwis (ccukwwts, lucta volutatoria) or squirming contest after the contestants had fallen, which continued until one acknowledged defeat .

Wrestling Strength

Few high school wrestling coaches in the southern United States (if not anywhere) carry more clout than Cliff Ramos, head coach at Collins Hill High School of Gwinnett County, Ga. A former national collegiate wrestling standout at Southwest Missouri State University, Ramos is a National Wrestling Hall of Fame member who in 2009 led the Eagles to their fourth Georgia Traditional state title in the last eight seasons. In ’09, Collins Hill won the Georgia AAAAA state title by a record 140 points to finish in the state top 10 for the 14th straight year.
As with any weight-lifting regimen, safety is the key. One should always begin in moderation before working his way up to the elite level that Collins Hill wrestlers have attained. But the goal, as it pertains to the end product on the mat, remains the same.
Sometimes all the hard work doesn’t pay off in the form of wrestling championships. Someone is bigger, stronger, better. But to Ramos, the most frequent error wrestling coaches make when it comes to strength and conditioning has to do, again, with consistency.

Short History Of Wrestling

The first written evidence for wrestling in the west country comes from a 1590 poem entitled "Polyolbion" by Michael Drayton concerning the Battle of Agincourt in 1415. it states that the Cornishmen who accompanied Henry V into battle had a standard that depicted two wrestlers. A replica of just such a banner is usually flown at wrestling events in modern Cornwall.

In the 17th Century Sir Richard Carew wrote of Cornish wrestling and it's close relative, Devonshire wrestling in his "Survey of Cornwall" He writes...
"Wrastling is as full of manliness, more delightful and less dangerous (than hurling)..........for you shall hardly find an assembly of boyes in Devon and Cornwall, where the most untowardly amongst them will not as readily give you a muster of this exercise as you are prone to require it."

Currently the modern sport matches are held on a field with a referee or stickler taking control of the action. The goal is a fall in which three points of the thrown wrestler's body touches the ground. It is often mistakingly compared to the Japanese art of Judo as a Cornish version of it. The art is kept alive today with a growing interest in western martial traditions and through continued practice by dedicated Cornish wrestlers at fairs and tournaments

Whilst Wrestling Thrives

Whilst wrestling thrives in the rest of the world its British cousin seems in terminal decline. This is the background against which Simon Garfield stirs the meomories of the "glory days" of wrestling in Britain. He tells the tale through the words of others and has produced not a definitive history but an entertaining parable of egotistical "characters" and rivalries that last to the present day. The book is never completely open about the realities of a professional wrestling match but instead allows the reader to feel like an outsider hearing careless wispers from behind the curtain. The vow of silence these men took seems to remain with most of them today. This is to some extent misguided, as anyone who is a fan of America's WWF knows. There the big names to not "insult" the fans intelligence by insisting it is real at all costs. In interviews and books outside the WWF's world (and sometimes in it) they make no secret of the way things are. And that is why so many people find it a form of entertainment that appeals to them. The wrestlers for the most part make up history to suit there own ends and thus presented together on the page form a hilarious patchwork of stories. Sometimes all the contributers are pulling in the same direction and a heart warming (or horrifying) story presents itself. Other times it desends into funny or meloncoly slanging matches about who "f***ed it all up". This is a slightly frustrating book if you already are aware of some of the behind the scenes bust ups and stories but to others it will delight at every turn. The last 2 chapters are the most depressing with two young(ish) talents from the current scene are quietly wallowing in the poverty of British wrestling as they compete with insulting rip-offs of WWF characters (usually the ones they ripped off were rubbish in their first incarnation). The underground scene has picked up slightly since the book was written with talented foreigners visiting occasionally and some "new-age" talent popping through. However the only thing that drives these youngsters on is getting out to America or Japan. At the base end of the market promoters are still presenting the outdated style of many mentioned in the book and the product is slowly dying. This book leaves us with lovely memories of a very British "sport".......one which is gone, best forgotten.

WRESTLING ARTICLE

Widely recognized as the world's oldest competitive sport, wrestling has featured in every Olympic games since its ancient conception.
Successful wrestling training for both disciplines must develop a high level of anaerobic power in both the arms and the legs and excellent strength endurance (1). With bouts lasting up to a maximum of 5 minutes (depending on the age and level), high levels of blood lactate can accumulate in wrestlers from frequent intense bursts of activity and minimal rest periods.
Anaerobic endurance and capacity are more probably more important to the wrestler than pure aerobic endurance. Aerobic power is average in national wrestlers although values as high as 70mls/kg/min have been recorded in elite level wrestlers (2).
A major consideration for wrestlers is weight management. Rapid weight loss to make a weight category has profound adverse effects on the wrestler's physiology, particularly in relation to strength endurance (1). Both nutritional and training techniques can help to minimize any weight reduction required in the first place and also to minimize the negative effects of rapid weight loss.

Sumo Wrestling

Sumo Wrestling is a popular competitive contact sport in Japan where a wrestler attempts to force his opponent either out of a circular ring, called the "dohyo", or to touch the ground inside the "dohyo" with anything other than the soles of the feet. Japan is the only country where the sport is practiced professionally because Sumo is essentially a sport of deep and ancient Japanese traditions, where there are many rituals and rules that need to be strictly followed and obeyed.
Also known as the Nihon Sumo Kyokai, the Japan Sumo Association (JSA) serves as the governing body of professional sumo wrestling. The members of JSA are former wrestlers, and they are the only people allowed to train new wrestlers. Wrestlers from foreign countries are very much welcomed to compete, but all professional competitions must take place only in Japanese soil.
The basic salary of a Yokozuna is approximately $24,000 per month, while a wrestler belonging in the second division makes about $9,000 a month. Just like any other sport, the elite wrestlers can enjoy more financial benefits. In 1993, for instance, a Yokozuna wrestler named Akebono earned more than $800,000, which was almost four times more than his base salary.
Finally, because Sumo Wrestling is a very popular sport in Japan, corporate sponsorship and endorsements are also prevalent in the sport. In fact, many Yokozunas and grand champions earn much more from endorsement deals.
